HALZEOCAT-CM

Advanced catalytic technology for removing persistent pollutants from water.

New members join the HALZEOCAT-CM project

During June, the HALZEOCAT-CM project welcomed two new members to the SUNFLOW research group at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). We warmly welcome them and wish them every success in this new stage.

Dr. Fuwen Liu, from the Shanghai Institute of Technology (Shanghai, China), has recently joined the team, and her research activities will be directly linked to the HALZEOCAT-CM project. Her research focuses on the development of photo-assisted processes for the removal of emerging contaminants from water, with particular emphasis on halogenated pesticides and other environmentally relevant persistent organic pollutants.

Her work will contribute to the study of charge-transfer mechanisms and the activation of reactive oxidative species involved in catalytic degradation processes, as well as to the identification of transformation products and the assessment of toxicity evolution during contaminant removal.

These activities are fully aligned with the objectives of HALZEOCAT-CM, which aims to develop advanced catalytic strategies for the removal of persistent pollutants and to improve water remediation technologies. In addition, her expertise in advanced oxidation processes will strengthen the environmental validation and practical application of the catalytic materials developed within the project, contributing to a deeper understanding of the degradation of halogenated contaminants and their environmental impact.

In addition, Lorena Gudiño Gutiérrez joined the SUNFLOW research group at UAM as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Dr. Carolina Belver.

Lorena holds a PhD in Applied Chemistry from UAM and has joined the team to contribute to the development of new catalytic strategies for the removal of emerging contaminants from water.
